Summary

This week I am chatting with one of my heroes, author Colleen Carroll Campbell about her newest book, The Heart of Perfection: How the Saints Taught Me to Trade My Dream of Perfect for God’s. Colleen shares about life as a wife, mom, and successful author, speaker, and media personality, and the ways in which she was brought to a deeper understanding of God’s love for her through her struggles with perfectionism and coming to know saints who struggled too. Colleen’s previous book is My Sisters the Saints: A Spiritual Memoir, another great read that will inspire you to learn more about saints who can accompany you on your life’s journey. 0:10.3

Hello and welcome to Girlfriends. I'm Danielle Bean. I'm a wife and a mom, and I'm on a mission to

0:16.2

help you know your worth as a woman so you can find peace, balance, and joy in family living. This week,

0:22.3

I am talking with one of my favorite authors. I am fan girling with Colleen Carol Campbell about her

0:28.0

newest book. Can't wait to share the conversation with you.

0:44.2

Hey, girlfriends. How are you? Thanks for showing up. Thanks for being a part of this episode of the Girlfriends Podcast. I'm going to be talking about perfectionism. And this is very appropriate because

0:50.5

by the time this podcast airs, by the time you're listening to it, I'm going to be pretty

0:55.0

darn close to the wedding date for my daughter who's getting married, May 26th.

1:00.4

That's going to come out about a week before that.

1:02.0

So I want to ask you, first of all, to pause, say a prayer for our family, say a prayer

1:06.3

for our daughter, Catery, and her fiancé, Brian, as they're preparing to be married.

1:12.2

So we've been praying for them all right along. And it's appropriate that we're talking about

1:16.5

perfectionism because even now, as I'm pre-recording this and we're still a few weeks away from

1:20.7

the big day, I'm fighting that battle myself with perfectionism with regard to how the event goes

1:26.9

and wanting to control all the things.

1:29.4

I think it's a very human temptation and I think it's one that we as women uniquely struggle

1:35.1

with. I think it's something that's kind of built into us that we kind of want that sense of

1:40.7

control and we want that level of perfection in the things that we do. And we can really

1:46.9

struggle in just turning things over to God and being reasonable in our expectations of ourselves

1:52.0

and other people and life events and that sort of thing. So for sure, I'm grateful to be reminded

1:58.7

of that as I'm putting together this podcast now a little bit ahead of time as we are preparing for that big day, May 26th.

2:05.1

So please do keep my daughter, catery and her fiance, Brian, in your prayers as we are preparing for that special day coming soon.
