In this episode of the Food For Fitness Podcast we’re chatting about nutrition and sports nutrition for vegan and vegetarian athletes with dietician - Emma McCrudden.
Leaving university, Emma was honored to walk down a very rare path where she was instantly able to work with not only Olympic athletes, but also with a professional rugby team! It wasn’t without hard work and commitment however, as she commuted between England and Ireland for three years! Nowadays you will find Emma working and teaching in Vancouver and continuing to work with Olympic athletes.
With many of the athletes following a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle, we get all the details on what this means in terms of influencing their performance and how they keep on top of their nutritional needs.
We ask Emma about some of the common challenges to consider when programming nutrition for vegetarian/vegan athletes, how deficiencies of key nutrients can directly impact performance , the best supplements and protein powders for vegans and whether they have a positive influence on the diet, top strategies for hitting protein targets and lots more.
