Starting January 27th, passengers who take up space in the neighboring seat will have to buy an extra ticket.

The change takes effect the same day Southwest moves to assigned seating. There you go. That's the policy. I mean, it seems fair enough to me. If you're getting on an airplane and you need extra space, meaning that you'll be encroaching upon the space of another person who could have possibly purchased that ticket, you should purchase the second ticket. Now, should you also get an extra carry-on bag and maybe an extra personal item,
