Hi there, from CNN. I'm Aaron Matthewson, with the five things you need to know for Thursday, February 27th.

President Donald Trump is threatening to double tariffs for Chinese goods.

He said that on March 4, an extra 10% could be imposed on top of the existing 10 that came into

effect earlier this month.

He also clarified that March 4th would be the deadline for Mexico and Canada's 25% tariffs,

after causing confusion when he told a reporter it would be in April.

This is all part of the president's strategy to stop illegal migration and flow of fentanyl into the U.S.

With Trump posting on true social, quote,

drugs are still pouring into our country from Mexico and Canada at very high

and unacceptable levels. CNN's Elizabeth Buckwold has more on the story.

It's a really big deal because these are three of the United States's largest trading partners,

so they could really be adding to the prices that Americans are paying if they go into effect

at a time when inflation's

already up. Now, some U.S. consumers say they're already feeling it and have found that the

tariffs have led to longer delivery times and customs processing delays. And speaking of U.S.-based

consumers, the number of first-time applications for unemployment

benefits rose more than expected last week.

And it's not a good sign for the U.S. labor market.

According to data from the Department of Labor, there were an estimated 242,000 jobless

claims filed last week.
