The Trump administration is gearing up to use a controversial 18th century wartime law

to speed up mass deportations.

That's according to multiple sources.

And if the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 is used,

it would give President Donald Trump huge amounts of power to target and remove undocumented immigrants.

That's because detentions and deportations wouldn't have to go through the immigration court system.

So, who is Trump looking to target first?

I asked CNN's Priscilla Alvarez.

Charlie, sources tell us that the primary target as of now is Dren Njadawa, the notorious Venezuelan

gang, which was also recently designated as a foreign terrorist organization.

Further discussions would be sending them back to Venezuela, but also to some countries that

have agreed to take back other nationalities like El Salvador.

But legal experts say it would be difficult for Trump to use the act when the U.S. isn't being

attacked by a foreign government, which was the initial intention of the Alien Enemies Act.

And they say that even if the administration does cite threats from gangs or cartels, it may not be enough

to shore up their decision to invoke this law.
