returning to Seattle's Garfield High School today will be greeted by families and community

members. It's their first day back since a 17-year-old

classmate was shot and killed on campus. Families with students at Garfield

and surrounding schools are asking the city to do more to address safety and gun

violence in the area. It's not the first shooting around the school. There have been

two others just this spring.

The earthquake early warning system that operates on the West Coast just got a big upgrade.

Shake Alert is now using a specialized GPS to detect seismic activity. Shake Alert has been used in Oregon,

Washington, and California since 2021.

It works by sending out a message to smartphones on the same system used by Amber Alert.

And some King County trails will become more accessible later this month.

The county is opening up 175 miles of trail to e-bikes, including the Burke Gilman and some Mesh River Trail. Seattle Times says
