But first, here are today's top stories. It's Monday, June 10th. Seattle's new interim police chief wants to talk with

school officials about bringing police officers back to the schools. Sue Rar made that request

after a 17-year-old student was shot and killed at Garfield

High School on Thursday.

The school district did away with so-called school resource officers in 2020.

That was in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests and was aimed at making black students feel safer.

I understand that there are very raw feelings about the police, but we're not going to

solve those raw feelings by staying apart.

Rar says there should be very clear policies and practices about how officers should be used. They should build relationships

with students and prevent violence, and they should not act as disciplinarians or security guards.
