Hello from CNN. I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, February 17th.

European leaders will hold an emergency security summit today in Paris.

It comes as they scramble to act, ahead of US and Russia meeting to discuss ending the war

in Ukraine, talks that Europe is being left out of.

Sources say US and Russian officials are set to start negotiations in Saudi Arabia tomorrow.

A Ukrainian official said Keev was not told about the peace talks.

But President Donald Trump says Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy will be a part of them.

He also spoke about his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

I think he wants to end it, and they want to end it fast.

Both of them, and Zelensky wants to end it too.

CNN's Fred Plitgen is in Moscow, with Russia's reaction.

They have said that they don't want to negotiate, for instance, about that pocket that

the Ukrainians control on Russian territory in the Kursk region.

They say they want to take that territory back.

And then of course there is the question of all the territory that the Russians currently

occupy on the Ukrainian side of the border.
