I'm John Bachelors, CBS Island the World with my colleague Judy Dempsey, the

editor-in-chief of Strategic Europe. She's in Berlin watching the French election, the UK election.

UK is not part of the EU. It is a major part of NATO, however, and right now the polls suggest

that labor out of power for 13 years will move back in.

It's uncertain what that means however for the European security question.

Spend more money on guns or spend more money on the population.

Labor has a reputation of spending on the population.

However, that alone doesn't determine the direction of the

European security.

Judy, you've written about the Weimar Group and it includes foreign ministries of

France, Germany, and Poland.

I'm presuming the French election is not going to change it profoundly.

These are foreign ministries.

The UK has a foreign ministry as well.

All the EU and NATO countries have foreign ministries that have become involved in the Ukraine

war. Do you see it changing profoundly these next days? There's a NATO meeting coming up in

Washington in the middle of July.

Are they looking for a new direction given the static nature of the front

and more and more weapon systems being poured into what appears to be a stalemate.

This Washington meeting, by the way, it's actually very actually very very important it's a summit it's a

national summit but there they are not going to and give Ukraine membership of

the NATO alliance it's absolutely posed by Germany and the United States.
