Hey, Drew, so we're just going to get right into it.

This week, there's really big news at ESPN, mass layoffs of public-facing talent.

There have been layoffs at ESPN over the last few years.

They kind of hit the executive level and all the behind the scenes people who get the sports on air.

But this is the first time that we've really seen a lot of names that just people sitting on,

you know, the couch at home are going to know. And so a lot of the stuff that sports media

reporters like our own Kevin Draper have been writing about for quite a while, I think it just

kind of hit the public this week. What's what's going on

with with ESPN and cable more broadly, which are all of a sudden looking like newspapers did

15 years ago. Yeah. And then the news coming down was going to be, okay, they're going to lay off

50 people, maybe 75, maybe 100. And even though that was sort of coming, it is still a shock for like everyday viewers like

me, like when Edwarder gets laid off, when Jason Stark gets laid off.

I mean, these are people who have been sort of part of your viewing rotation for decades,

you know?

So it's a genuine shock to the system. And it's funny because... And rightly so. It's

not like they were superannuated fossils who weren't contributing anything. I mean, exactly the opposite.

It's like the cool John Walsh side of ESPN where you get, you know, you just get like beat writers and

reporters who really know what the fuck they're talking

about and put them on air. These people were all from that kind of strain of ESPN, which is

always been my favorite strain of ESPN, you know, the one where you just turn it on and there's

like Peter Gammon's, you know, going into really nerdy detail about how some front office works.

Like, it seems like they're losing a lot of that a fell swoop.
