About a week before Thanksgiving, in November of 1965, I was going to work on Friday morning

and my wife said to me, when you get off work tonight, would you stop and pick up a few

things for me?

That was rather dangerous, it was payday, Friday.

But I got off at five o'clock, I got my check cash and I went to buy her a few things.

When I was coming home at 2.30 in the morning, I was stopped on ceremoniously by an officer

of the law and he came up the side of the car without any introduction, he opened the door

and I fell out on the road and he didn't even administer the sobriety test, he just put

me in the squad car and arrested me for drunk driving.

I knew it was unconstitutional, he hadn't performed any test or anything, but I'm kind of

a good long go, a long kind of guy.

But early the next morning, they gave me my phone call and I called my older sister, I

had four sisters and I was very fair with all of them.

I usually try not to call the same one, every time I got in trouble, I kind of divided

up and they were pretty generous about that, but I called my older sister and I said, had

a little problem last night, I'm in jail and I wonder if you would come down and get

me out.
