Summary

My friend Madison Frederick (in her early 70s) joins us to talk about her new and important book about narcissism. Madison talks about her story to identity being in a narcissistic relationship (father and former husband) and her journey to understand the controlling behavior and the negative impact on her and the relationship. In the book (which took 5 years to write) Madison also talks about learning to undue her behaviors such as enabling and co-dependency. She also talks about gaslighting and how this manipulation is not part of healthy relationship. I was so impressed with Madison’s courage and vulnerability to share her story with a deep desire to help others. I encourage everyone who wants to improve relationships and learn how “being whole and complete” comes from within, to check out Madison’s book. Thank you, Madison, for being on the podcast! lot about narcissistic people from some of my prior guests. And so I'm grateful that Madison's

going to be on the podcast. We'll link to her book in the show notes. It's at Amazon. It was released in early September of 2023. Madison is in her early 70s. She's married. I think she's a mom and a grandma and lives in Utah. She's not a Latter-day saint,

but we have lots of people with wonderful insights that come on this podcast that aren't connected

with our faith. Although generally this is an LDS-themed podcast. So I have a hunch that

things Madison will share will be helpful to all faiths, including our faith community.

1:30.1

I think she's going to talk about, you know, her father and her former husband.

1:34.8

So she's not writing about this sort of theoretically.

1:38.0

I think she's writing about this from a perspective.

1:41.5

This is my lived experience and what I've learned and what I want to help others,

1:45.0

probably particularly women, recognize men that are narcissists. I guess it's possible to reverse,
