They were surrounded by Spanish cavalry, starving, and desperate.

However, a Spanish messenger brought them word that France and Spain were now at peace, almost allies.

The Spanish officer's letter was signed and sealed by the Vicky General and seemed to be legitimate.

However, the French didn't trust the Spanish.
