Summary

In this episode, I’m joined by two of my favorite people in the running World—Kara Goucher and Des Linden. That’s right, these two incredible women are not only co-hosts of the podcast Nobody Asked Us, but they’re also beloved athletes in the running world. Both have been on this show multiple times, and it’s always such a pleasure to chat with them. Kara, who used to host The Relay podcast with me (a short-lived but super fun time, we all miss her over there!!), and of course, Des—who we all know for her unforgettable 2018 Boston Marathon win. But what I think stands out most about Des is her remarkable consistency over the years and the way she’s always shown up, not just for herself but for the running community. “Keep showing up” is her motto, and so many in the running world have adopted that phrase!

Both Kara and Des are also authors. They are both authors—Kara’s Running for Women and Des’ Choosing to Run—and it’s been so fun watching their friendship blossom over the past year, especially as they teamed up to launch their podcast. We talk a bit about the evolution of their relationship and podcast in this episode. Kara is a two-time Olympic and World Championship silver medalist, and one of the most authentic and honest people I’ve ever met. Her voice and perspective, along with Des’, make their podcast so special.

What excites me most about Nobody Asked Us is how it has the potential to take our sport of running beyond our little bubble. Both Kara and Des have such a wide-reaching platform, and their podcast is a great way to bring new people into the sport and spark more interest in running, which is ultimately so beneficial for all of us.

I’m cheering them on as they continue to grow and succeed in both their podcasting journey and beyond. I hope this intro did them justice, though most of you listening probably already know these two, so they don’t need much of an introduction! That said, I’ll include links to prior episodes with Kara and Des in these show notes if you want to dive into those past conversations.

Okay, enough from me—please enjoy this conversation with Kara and Des!

athletes in our wonderful sport of running both have been on the podcast multiple times carrie used to

0:49.0

host the relay podcast with me which was short-lived but fun, and we miss her so much. Of course,

0:56.3

we all know Des from her 2018 win in Boston, but more importantly, the consistency she has had

1:03.7

over the years in running. And of course, we all know Des from her 2018 Boston Marathon win,

1:10.2

but I think most importantly,

1:12.1

her consistency and the way she shows up and supports those around her and has done that

1:17.9

all these years. Both Kara and Des are authors. I, like many of you, read their books. I guess

1:23.9

it wasn't last year. It was the year before. And it has been so fun to see their friendship

1:28.3

play out over this past year when they formed this friendship and started this podcast. And we talk

1:34.1

about the evolution of all that in this episode. Kara, two-time Olympic and World silver medalist,

1:41.0

one of the most honest, authentic people I have ever met. And I think what is most

1:48.2

exciting about their podcast, of course it's super fun, but it has the opportunity to elevate our

1:55.5

sport outside of our little bubble. They have the reach to bring more people in and get more people interested

2:03.4

in the sport of running, which is what we all know is beneficial and good. And so I am cheering them on

2:10.2

as they continue to grow and see success in their podcast and beyond. Okay, I hope that intro

2:17.1

did both of them justice. And also,

2:20.5

I know most of you listening probably know this duo and they don't really need an introduction.
