Why do you think that there are so many of my fellow leftists in this media space who have

sort of a negative response whenever general strikes are brought up? I mean, the obvious, what they say

is that one has to prepare for general strikes. It is irresponsible to talk about general strikes

if the strike funds aren't officially built and the organizing

work hasn't been sufficiently done. But my experience is that if anyone even mentioned that at

some point in the future, a general strike is a good idea, there's like a sort of really almost

hostile reaction from some quarters of the left. Absolutely. And all of those factors that you just brought up, those are all valid points.

However, to then come to the conclusion, like, well, I'm going to have a hostile response to this.

We can never do this.

Like, look, it's a heavy lift.

I get that, especially in a place like the United States where your health care is tied to your job

and your one paycheck from going under pretty much all the time.

This is all by design.

This is all by design that we can't do what they can do in France where they can just strike on a whim.

And then, you know, if you try to mess with their pensions, they're going to cover a politician's house and shit.

It's a lot harder for us to pull that off here, and it's by

design. But, I mean, the other option is not trying. If we're going to just be as blunt as possible,

the other option is just not trying. And it's like, at the end of the day, when you have two choices,

fight for a better world or not, why pick not? Why not? You know, so it's

one of those things. It's like, well, we're either going to try or we're not. And when you look at

everything around us, that's a viable way to fight back and a way more effective way to fight back

than, you know, oh, let's just keep voting for incrementalism.
