Before I get into a celebration of Donald Trump's first hundred days, a flashback to election night, 1996, courtesy of Dan Rather of CBS News.

In Illinois, this is for the seat of the retiring Democratic Senator Paul Simon.

Our CBS News estimate is when all the votes are in and encountered.

Representative Dick Derman, the U.S. representative there, will hold on to this seat for the Democrats in Illinois.

Dick Durbin, the Illinois Democrat, who was first elected to the House in 1982,

and then, as you just heard, to the Senate in 1996,

announced he will not seek a sixth term next year.

We will explore Durbin's career later in the program.

And we also have a possible coming and definite leaving in New York.

Elise Stefannick, who was originally nominated by President Trump to be UN ambassador,

but whose nomination was later called back when Republicans realized their margin in the House was dwindling

and they needed her to stay put, suggested that she may be quitting the House anyway to run for
