Last time, we saw relations between the Bishop Prince of Monster, France von Valdek, and

the citizens of Monster, take a nosedive. This occurred for two reasons. Firstly, due to the fact that the

bishop prince had offered to bring an army into Munster to crush the Anabaptists, an offer which he

believed the city council of Munster had rejected.

In reality, though, the council hadn't received the offer.

It had been destroyed by co-mare Herman Tilbeck, who, acting secretly on behalf of Bernard

Kniepidolling, instead passed on a false offer which he knew the council would

reject. At this point in time, neither the council nor the bishop prince realize they've been

duped. The second reason why relations between Munster and the Bishop Prince have been dealt a blow

is due to the decision by the Bishop Prince to arrest and execute without trial

the Bremen lawyer who had assisted the City Council in its negotiations with the Anabaptists.
