Last time, we left Munster in the throes of a sort of pre-apocalypse madness. It was the year

1534, and the Anabaptists of Munster were convinced that the apocalypse

and the second coming of Jesus Christ were events that could happen at any moment.

A sort of standoff between a group of ordinary residents of Munster, which included most of the town

councillors, the remaining Catholics and Lutherans, versus the Anabaptists had taken place,

and as a result, the Anabaptists were convinced that the Bishop Prince of Munster, Franz von Valdek, was about to invade the town.

When a message made it through to the Bishop Prince that the Anabaptists of Munster had armed themselves,

had arranged cannon in defensive positions, and had indulged in a night of apocalyptic madness, that fear of

invasion looked like it would end up coming to pass. The bishop prince had in fact been

gathering his forces at his nearby palace at Telter.
