Welcome to episode 31 of real Cool History for Kids.

In our last two episodes we have learned about some of the events that

surrounded the fall of the Roman Empire,

which pushed the eastern hemisphere into a time period that we call the Middle Ages.

We learned about two brothers who were Kings of England and about the Magna Carta, an important document that stated the Kings were not above the law like they thought they were. We learned that there was a lot of

fighting between the Muslim kingdoms and the Christian kingdoms. In this episode

we're still in the Middle Ages, but we're going to go visit another part of the world.

While kingdoms and empires rose and fell in the west, the civilizations of the rest of the world

were also moving into the Middle Ages.

Because it is impossible to learn about everything that happens simultaneously but in different parts on Earth,

we have to do a little continent skipping.

If you were to place your finger on your globe to mark the location in which the events of our two last episodes took place,

your finger would be pointing at Europe. If you were to turn the globe just to the left a few

inches, your finger would travel along until it rested in Asia. You may want to do that right now or go find the

continents of Europe and Asia on a world map. Today we will be taking a quick tour through the Chinese

dynasties that ruled during the years between 907 and 1279. If you have studied Chinese ancient history you might remember the Tang

Dynasty which leads us up to the year 907.

I'm going to warn you, this episode is full of Chinese names

and I don't speak Chinese, so I may not pronounce them very well, but I promise you that I will try my best, okay?
