In warfare, the most important weapon in any general's arsenal is knowledge.

Regardless of their strength in arms or soldiers or morale, knowledge is usually the key to victory.

Certainly knowing your terrain, knowing yourself, both your strengths and your weaknesses,

but perhaps most important of all is knowing your enemy.

You need to know everything you can about their troops, their placement, their plans.

But most of all you need to know their strengths and weaknesses.

Not in arms or at least not only that, but who your enemy is?

Why are they fighting? What's their motivation? How will they fight? And what weaknesses

did they possess that you can best exploit? From atop the Santa Teresa castle on Providence Island, Admiral Henry Morgan must have thought long and hard about this.

The castle was his now, though the Spanish had built it.

These islands, Providence and St. Catalina, were back in the hands of the English, their

rightful masters in Morgan's thinking. Now there were valuable islands especially to the English rovers. To the east lay the

mosquito coast and the Spanish main which the English coveted. To the north lay the Cayman Islands,
