People come up to me, you need to be running in a Democratic Party. Have you heard my message?

Have you heard my critique of the corporate duopoly? Have you heard the taboo issues that the Democratic

Party will not touch at all? Do you know what it means to look at where the American Empire is now

and the sheer dysfunctionality of its two-party system

as 60% of its fellow citizens are struggling to put food on table every month, and they can still allow for military expansionism. All right.

Well, I'm talking today to a man who needs no introduction.

You know him as a professor, a writer, a scholar, public intellectual.

Now he's adding to the list, 24 presidential candidate.

Dr. Cornell West, welcome back to Beth Faith. Well, it's always a

blessing to be in conversation with you. What a major force for truth and good you are in these

very bleak times. Well, it's so kind of you to say that, Dr. West, I think that the news of your

announcement was met with overwhelming optimism and positivity

from not just people on the left, but across the political spectrum. You've really distinguished

yourself as someone who's able to talk to people from all walks of life, of all political

backgrounds, of all class backgrounds with empathy and grace and good humor and love and compassion and a strong

sense of justice. And it makes, I think, a lot of folks very interested in your campaign so much so

that I think the only detraction, the only dark spot, the only kind of negativity that I saw

was about the choice to run with MPP as opposed to as a green or some

might even want you to run as a Democrat. Not too many people in my audience, but some people out there,

I'm sure. So I want you to talk me through the decision to run in the first place, the timing of

that, and then the decision to run with MPP, the movement for a people's party.
