Since we last talked Cop City, things have escalated. A SWAT team raided a house where activists were raising legal support and bail funds, and over 40 Cop City protestors have been charged with state domestic terrorism. All this comes after a new autopsy report confirms police were not acting in self defense when they killed 26-year-old forest defender Manuel “Tortuguita” Terán. Kamau Franklin returns to the podcast along with Micah Herskind and Mariah Parker, two other Stop Cop City activists, to give us the lay of the land and connect the criminalization of protests and the fascist funding of the police training center by national corporations to broader trends across the country.

0:26.2

collect signatures to get it on the November ballot and have the people vote. And our expectation is

0:32.2

that they're going to vote down Cop City. And then, you know, further down the line, we think we're

0:36.9

putting these folks on notice

0:38.7

that the Atlanta way, the way of doing backroom deals, which is what these elected officials

0:43.8

are used to. They're used to basically sucking up the corporations and developers. And in this

case, also the Atlanta Police Foundation, that's who they're used to be in their actual constituency.

And for those who work in that area, particularly in terms of electoral politics, to give them

1:04.4

the fight of their lives.

1:05.6

Because we have to break that chain of some of these folks.

1:08.5

So some of these folks who got in, they got in here telling us that

1:10.9

they were going to be opposed to Cop City. And they've given wishy-washy stance all the way through,

1:15.8

even in terms of the actual votes. We did peel off for a couple of votes. But even some of those

1:20.8

folks, to be honest, they did so knowing that it was already a protected vote and that this

1:25.5

would pass because of the cover that other folks

1:27.6

gave them. So I do think like this is a turning point in terms of the coalition that's been
