Summary

I am so excited to share with you my guest interview with Isabel Foxen Duke. I have to admit to being a little bit of a fangirl of Isabel and her work. I have struggled through a lot of the stuff that Isabel is so brilliant with working with women on like weight-cycling, food issues, and emotional eating. She helps women stop feeling crazy around food.

So, are you always on the diet wagon or waaaay the f**k off it? I myself have zero neural pathways around healthy thinking or belief systems as far as food goes. Sure, I've learned a few things through therapy and from doing the work, but I still am really early in my own weight recovery journey.  I can guess that many of my listeners are in a similar boat. And that's why I invited Isabel to the show. She shares her expertise on letting go of the struggle with food and also offers great insight on weight recovery and its effect on relationship dynamics.

Show Highlights

  • Isabel shares openly about her experience with diet culture starting at the age of 3 years old (yes, you read that correctly - she was put on a diet at the age of 3) (5:42 seconds)

  • Letting go of the struggle and how Isabel came to the work she is doing now (21:22)

  • Surrendering to 'bottoming out' and understanding that eating a cookie when you are sad is a-okay (28:55)

  • The delusion of control and how recovery is the process of surrendering over and over again (29:27)

  • What surrendering actually looks and feels like (32:00)

  • Weight restoration, understanding that gaining weight when you stop dieting is completely healthy and recovering from post-diet trauma (33:31)

  • Shame over clothing sizes, body image issues and cutting through your own B.S. rationalizations (45:19)

  • Healthy weight gain post-recovery, its effect on relationships, and being with someone who does not support your recovery (47:20)

  • Dealing with family and friends who you can't divorce and do not understand your weight recovery journey (1:03:20)

Hey there, everyone.

Welcome back to another episode of the Divorce Survival Guide podcast. I have a few super important things to tell you about this week. So listen up. So first of all, I am super excited to tell you that I will be doing a live webinar entitled, Should You Stay in Your Marriage for Your Kids,

1:02.9

Three Truths Revealed. I'm really excited about this webinar because I get to go really deep into what I think can be the biggest roadblock to so many in being able to make this decision.

1:09.9

As you know, I actually left my marriage for my son

1:13.6

to give him the chance at a better life, but I didn't do a ton of research around whether or not

1:18.0

that was the best choice. I just intuitively knew I had to go. Well, now that I do what I do,

1:24.3

I've of course done a ton of research and spoken with countless experts, and I have a lot

1:30.0

to say on this subject. So I'm doing a webinar about it, and I will be doing the live training

1:36.1

twice once on February 6th, that's a Wednesday, at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern, and then I'm going to

1:43.3

do it again on the 7th, the very next day, at 1 p.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern. And then I'm going to do it again on the seventh, the very next day, at 1 p.m. Pacific, 4 p.m. Eastern. So I'm giving you a couple of timeframes in there in case, you know, just to try and cover people's availability. It runs about an hour. So you want to make sure that you block off that much time. I hate getting on webinars where people don't

2:01.6

tell you how long it's going to be. You're like, well, why am I supposed to be here? So you really don't

2:08.0

want to miss this training. It is super in depth and I cover way more than the title suggests. So you're

2:13.2

going to find the registration link in the show notes. So head on over there and get yourself registered.

2:20.4

So to today's episode, I have with me today, Isabel Foxen Duke.

2:27.3

I think I shared a teeny bit about my struggles with compulsive dieting here on the podcast,

2:32.8

but if not, there's a link to a blog post

that I wrote about it in the show notes. And of course, I've done two episodes on my dear friend

2:39.4

Andrea Owens podcast about this subject. And those are linked in that blog post and also in the
