Jesus wants you to know about the story of Adam. I know because he told me so.

I actually have no idea what Jesus thinks but that's above my pay grade. But these are five things

that I think are important to keep in mind as we read the Adam story if we want to read it well.

That's the way I like to put it. Not perfectly, but if we would like to read it well and be in tune

to the clues the writer is giving us there. And I've got five things and I think just to start off

here, rather a preliminary point, but I know that this can be an issue of tension for some people.

And I fully respect that, and I've made peace with this a long time ago, but I know many happened.

And I just respect where people are on this spiritually and intellectually and all that sort of

stuff. But just a food for thought here, a bit of a morsel for thought. This is not the first time

the church has had to think through the matter of biblical interpretation. What stories mean?

In light of changes in our knowledge about let's say the physical world.

And you know the big one is Galileo. And whether the earth is at the center of the cosmos or

whether the sun is and the sun is. And in fact the cosmos is much bigger than we

might have understood beforehand. It doesn't sort of stop. It just sort of keeps going.

You know the Bible doesn't think that way about the earth or about the cosmos. There's a dome overhead

that keeps the waters of chaos away and allows habitable life to occur in the sky and in the seas.
