on some occasions, some of the high performers I work with eventually hit a very distinct moment.

They start believing their system should guarantee results.

But the reality is, your system isn't a machine that produces outcomes.

It's a way of stacking the odds in your favor.

One of the biggest misconceptions that I see, especially with high performers, is this belief

that if you just build the right system, you're going to get the outcome that you want. And that is not how it

works. Systems don't create success. They don't guarantee success, rather. They increase the

probability of it. And that's it. Nothing more, nothing less. All the athletes that I work with,

all the coaches, executives, that's what

we talk about all of the time. Creating a system that increases the probability of success,

because you can't control outcomes. If you did, you'd get what you wanted every single time,

but that's not how life or sport or school works. There's too much randomness, too many variables,

too many human elements involved. But what you can control is you can control your inputs.

What you can design is you can design your constraints. What you can build is you can build feedback loops to update your system and

update your process so that you continue to learn from it. And when those things are aligned,

your inputs, your constraints, your feedback loops, you give yourself a better shot. It doesn't

guarantee anything, but you give yourself a better shot.

And the moment you expect yourself and your system to deliver results, that they're promised you, that you believe that you now promised these results, that's when you're going to set yourself up for frustration.

A great system.

It does not eliminate uncertainty.
