Good morning and welcome to the Increasing Impact podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 22006.

Most people, when they're designing their performance systems, they fail for one reason.

0:12.4

And it's because they assume that they are unlimited.

0:15.9

They neglect the fact that they're human and they have limits.

0:20.7

Limited attention, limited memory,

0:23.6

limited energy, limited time. I can go on. But most people design systems as if they're always going

0:33.5

to remember. They're always going to have focus. They're always going to execute under pressure.

0:39.4

Not only is that backwards, but that's not true. We're human. We're going to have bad days.

0:45.0

In my work in helping people and teams design performance systems, what we want is we don't want

0:53.8

them to try harder. We want them to design

0:56.2

systems that require less thinking, fewer decisions, clearer priorities, where their actions are

1:04.2

obvious. They know what to do. It's automatic. It's automized. And so when you're designing your

1:10.5

system, instead of ignoring

1:12.2

your limits, you want to design around them. You want to use them. Because when you do that,

1:18.2

you're going to be able to perform when stress hits. And so my invitation to you is to take a look

1:23.6

at your systems that you currently have. If it only works when you are flawless,

1:29.9

then you don't have a system. You need something that can stand the test of time,

1:35.2

that can hold up under pressure, they can hold up when you're tired and you're stressed and you

1:40.0

don't want to do it. It's where you do it automatically. So you need to break it down

1:44.7

and keep it simple and just continue to execute it until you do it automatically. And so

1:51.2

hopefully this is helpful. Have a great day. We'll do it next time. If you love stuff like this
