It's Wednesday, the 17th of April 2013.

I'm Martin yelling. He's Tom Williams, and this is episode 171 of Marathon Talk.

Most of you listening to this will already know about the tragic events at Monday's Boston

Marathon where a number of explosions around the Finnish area led to the death of three people

and serious injury to well over 100 more.

We'd like to start this week's show by offering our immediate thoughts to those seriously injured, their friends and families.

We doubt, however, that there's a single

member of the world's running community who doesn't feel upset right now.

We tried and tried to write show notes that included reports from Brighton and some of the amazing

performances from Boston, a preview from London, but recording this on the Tuesday,

we just didn't feel in the right mindset didn't really feel

well I couldn't get my head around anything else at all so what we thought

was that today for episode 171 that would be released on Wednesday the 17th

by tomorrow. We'd just reflect on the events of Boston and our thoughts around

those and we'd speak to a few people that were there and then we'll be down at the

London Marathon Expo and we'll release shows on Thursday and Friday and Saturday

that do look back on some of the great performances like Joan Benoit's 250 at the age of

55 you know we'll speak to like Joan Benoit's 250 at the age of 55.

You know, we'll speak to people from Brighton Marathon,

we'll preview London, and we'll be upbeat again.

Today we're just going to reflect on those tragic experiences of Monday.
