Hey everybody and welcome back to another pink show where we talk about what's going on in the mountain biking world.

I'm Mike Levy, and today's episode is all about trying to reinvent the mountain bike, or parts of it at least, and failing miserably.

Now, we've got a long list of stuff to go through, but to give you an idea, Kasmer, do you remember those one-piece thermoplastic trispoke wheels from spin in the 90s or those bladed carbon wheels from

Spinergy that also disappeared? Yeah, I definitely remember the Spinergy ones more than the spin. I remember

both of them, but Spinergy was pretty big. They were super popular back east. I remember doing a cross-country

race and seeing a guy step through his Spenogy wheel and get those carbon bladed spokes like pretty far up his thigh.

Oh shit. Did it cut them? I had like he had spandex on but I'm sure he had some cuts on there because

it was pretty far. Oh Lord. So it's a wheel you can step through. So since then I've never really

wanted one. But at the time before that day, I really thought they looked cool and they were carbon fibers, so they're futuristic.

Not good, not good. I've also got Betas Ryan Palmer here with me who has been around for a while as well. Ryan, you've no doubt seen those things, but do you know what works really, really freaking well?

Spokes work really well for a ton of reasons. Ryan, did you ever ride those spin or spinnergy wheels?

You know, I never owned a Seth, but I had a buddy who had a pair of spins on a 1994

Cannondale Super v. And he also had Magura, like the Magura hydraulic rim brakes on there.

It was, it was a pretty fancy bike at the time. I mean, those wheels, for some reason,

I actually don't really know why they haven't caught on by now. Like, it's like we have the

carbon technology. It's so much more advanced than it was back then. Like those spin wheels were

so interesting because they still had an aluminum rim because disc brakes didn't exist yet, right?

Yeah.

But yeah, they were cool at the time.

Was there a product from back then that you wanted so bad as a young mountain biker, Ryan,

but now you realize it was absolute trash?

Yeah, I think I really wanted the, um, the cucka cranks.
