Good morning and welcome to the Increase Room Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 1,937.

0:06.7

And today's message comes from the writer Yuval Noah Harari. And he says, we spend far more time and effort on trying to control the world than on trying to understand it.

0:21.9

And I really like that.

0:30.1

I think it is so true that we waste so much time and energy trying to control things that we have no control over.

0:36.2

And I've said it many times that things that you try to control but can't end up controlling you.

0:39.9

And oftentimes this comes in a form of the past,

0:46.4

the future, or circumstances, and other people. And I like what this author says, instead of trying to control the world or your situation or other people, try to understand it. Try to understand why it is the way it is so that you could

1:30.6

Because as you cling to certainty, it's going to inhibit your ability to take safe risks.

1:38.7

Inhibit your ability to swing for the fences and to do things that are outside of your

1:43.6

comfort zone. Some of you listening

1:45.3

to this are looking for control. You're looking for certainty. You want to be safe. But at the same time,

1:54.7

you do want to swing for the fences. You want the results that come with taking chances or or or stepping into the unknown.

2:06.2

My question for you is, what can you do to understand your situation better?

2:11.2

What can you do to understand the person who might be causing you some turmoil?

2:16.2

What can you do to understand these situations that you're trying to control?

2:19.7

And as you understand them deeper, you'll be able to know how to adjust accordingly.
