Good morning and welcome to the Increase Your Impact podcast. I'm Justin Sue and today we're talking about the importance of your environment.

Now to introduce this topic, I want you to think about your local grocery store. That store is designed to influence your behavior without you even realizing it.

The bakery is at the front of the store so that the smell of the fresh baked goods capture

your attention.

All of the sweet, sugary items are on the lower levels of the aisle so that children have easy

access to it.

If you want often used foods like milk or eggs, you think it would be conveniently placed in the front of the

store, right? No, you have to navigate your way to the very back, hopefully passing items you

buy on an impulse. Finally, after making numerous purchase decisions, environmental designers

provide candy at the cash register to take

advantage of your depleted willpower. When it comes to what you do, your environment plays a

critical role. You want to design your environment to align with your goals, create it so that you

make good decisions easier to make and bad decisions harder to make.

So my question is, how are you contributing to your environment?

What changes can you make to your environment that will make it easier to be a better version of

yourself?

Your environment is the invisible hand that shapes behavior.

So take a look at your environment, your environment at home, your environment at work,

your environment at school, wherever it may be, your car.
