I was listening to a documentary by Mike Shoshchewski, former head coach of the Duke University men's basketball team.

And he was telling a story. I cannot remember the exact date. I cannot remember the exact significance of the game.

But he did say that the turning significance of the game, but he did say that the

turning point of the game was when the eighth man on the bench rallied the team and told everyone

let's go. They got inspired and they ended up winning the game. Now, it sounds like a simple,

little innocent story, but Mike Shishchevsky truly believed that it was the

energy and the passion of the eighth player on the bench that carried the team that inspired the

team. And so he was telling his wife the story afterwards how inspiring that was and how the

eighth man was able to say that and to do that. And he goes, that was the key to the game.

And she disagreed with him.

She goes, no, that wasn't the key.

And he said, well, what are you talking about?

She said, the key was everybody listened.

And that's when Mike Shoshchevsky realized that he created a powerful culture, a culture where everyone's voice mattered.

It didn't come from him, Coach K., the coach.

It didn't come from the captain.

It didn't come from the highest score.

It came from someone who seemingly doesn't have a voice.

Seemingly in other cultures might not carry the power that the eighth man

on this bench did and so my question to you is what kind of culture are you creating do everyone's

voice does everyone's voice matter what role does everybody play do does everyone treat everyone with
