Today we are going to talk about a simple framework, thought experiment that you can use to become a better teammate.

We're all part of teams, whether it be your sports team, your family, your work team,

your friends. And I don't know you. I don't know you personally or what you're going through,

but chances are if you're listening to this podcast, you're the kind of person who wants to

increase your impact. And one way to increase your impact is to be a great teammate.

And one way to be a great teammate is to apply this principle that we're going to talk about today.

Pause and consider the obstacles, the problems, the challenges of the people who are around you.

We get so wrapped up in our own world, wrapped up in our own stresses, constantly worrying

about what's going to happen to us.

But what I'm inviting you to do is that pause and consider the challenges, the obstacles and the struggles of

those around you. What's mom and dad going through? What are your teammates going through? What's your

coach going through? What tough decisions do your, does your boss have to make? As you practice this

and practice considering the struggles that others might be

going, might be going through, it allows you to broaden your perspective, get out of your own

self, and look for ways you can help them. What can you do to help other people in need?

What can you do to build up your brother, your sister, your parent, your teammate, your boss,

your coworker, whoever may be the people you lead. As you start to think about them and what

they're going through, it'll nudge you to see what you can do to help. And sometimes the best way to

help is to be the best version of yourself, to be a little bit more patient, a little bit more

compassionate, a little bit more kind. And it helps us overcome this center of the universe

syndrome where we think we are the center of the universe.
