Good morning and welcome to the Increase for Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 1211. Today we're talking about

how to get the best out of your people. This episode is for those of you who are coaches or leaders,

team captains, and you're wondering how do I get the best out of the people that I lead? The short answer

is you don't get the best people get the best out of people by squeezing it out of them.

You bring it out of them. And that is a huge difference. Squeezing somebody looks like pressure,

demands, fear, external motivation. You're

driving them. Bringing the best out of them, it's increasing their belief, their clarity,

their connection, their competence, helping them connect to each other, helping them connect to their why, discover their

why. I feel like they're getting better, feel like they're in control of their destiny, so to

speak. When someone's performing at their best, it's rarely, rarely because they're afraid of letting you down.

Many times it's because they felt safe, safe enough to go all in, safe enough to let it eat.

And they trusted you enough to be there with them.

Alex Smith, I was listening to a podcast that he did recently and he said

that he doesn't like the good luck coaches. The coaches before a game who comes up to you and says,

good luck. That's you on the shoulder pads or the helmet said, hey, good luck. Good luck out there.

Alex says, what do you mean good luck? Aren't you with me? Aren't we going into the foxhole together?

And so that's why he didn't like good luck coaches. When you want to bring the best out of people,

you're signaling to them that I'm here with you. And it's important, I'm in the hard times with you.

I'm in the cold with you. I'm going through adversity with you.

A leader's job, a coach's job isn't to extract performance out of the players. It's to create the

conditions where performance are going to grow. It starts with curiosity. It's getting to know

the person before the player. It's understanding what
