Welcome to episode 91 of Marathon Talk. For this episode, we're doing it slightly differently. We've been wanting to talk more about the use of performance-enhancing drugs in running for some time.

And so in this special episode, we're going to spend the whole

time in the company of Brett Clothia, one of the world's leading voices and authorities in this

space. He's the head of the Athletics Integrity Unit. That's the organization responsible

for protecting the integrity of global athletics through anti-doping enforcement,

investigation, education and corruption prevention.

Brett spent decades working at the intersection of sport, law and integrity.

Before joining the AIU, he held senior roles in anti-doping organisations in Australia and New Zealand.

He's developed the real reputation as one of the leading figures in international sports integrity.

Since taking over leadership at the AIU, he's overseen some of the most significant anti-doping corruption cases in athletics,

whilst also helping shape policies designed to restore trust and

anti-doping and marathons. Welcome, Brett. We're really looking forward to talking to you about the global marathon running community

and the role of the AIU in ensuring the integrity of the sport and its performances.

Historically, road running and athletics has had its share of controversy.

I'm thinking of the IAAF, Liam Deiak, Russian, Kenyan, East African

corruption scandals that have significantly served to tarnish the global reputation of this sport.

We've been witnessed to, and I've been personally impacted by some unbelievable ways in which

integrity, fairness fairness and competition have

been compromised. So tell us why the AIU was set up and how your team is seeking to establish
