| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Fat Emperor podcast. |
| 0:05.0 | I'm your host, Iber Cummins. |
| 0:07.0 | Hello all, it's 27th of April and I'm going to give you another quick update on the current challenging situation. |
| 0:14.0 | And this addresses a common topic out there, vitamin D and its interaction with your exposure or your |
| 0:22.6 | the severity you may experience with this viral problem. So we're going to look at a few |
| 0:27.9 | slides here and the first is around a new study that came out from the Philippines, from a |
| 0:33.1 | doctor there, radiologist. And it's a simple study and it just looks at the severity of these viral |
| 0:39.9 | outcomes versus the vitamin D historical status of the people in question. So it's only a couple |
| 0:46.4 | of hundred people. You can see the title here. And it did look at their prior vitamin D levels. |
| 0:52.9 | So it's not just post-admittance when they had the virus. |
| 0:56.0 | It looked at historical and post-admittance. |
| 0:59.0 | So that's kind of controlled for. |
| 1:01.0 | So essentially here's the result. |
| 1:03.0 | And we see that as an association, it's very powerful. |
| 1:08.0 | So it is associational data retrospective, but we see that mild cases overwhelmingly |
| 1:13.9 | were above 30 nanogram per mill, which is sufficiency for vitamin D, pretty much accepted. |
| 1:20.7 | And then as you get to ordinary cases and severe, particularly, and critical indeed, |
| 1:26.8 | you see that these cases are dominated by an |
| 1:30.0 | association with insufficient or deficient D levels so it's quite a strong signal |
| 1:36.4 | albeit associational now if we look here Elizabeth Brown actually replotted the |
| 1:42.4 | data for us thank you Elizabeth And you can see again, |
| 1:46.3 | the mild outcomes average 30 something nanograms of vitamin D and increasing severity of outcome |
