Today we'll be telling the story of St Paul of Thebes, whose feast is celebrated on January 15th,

and St Anthony the Great whose feast is celebrated on January 17th.

First we'll talk about St. Paul of Thebes.

Paul was born around the year 227 in Egypt.

When he was just a young man, both of his parents died, leaving Paul and his sister a nice inheritance.

His wicked brother-in-law wanted all the money for himself, and he knew Paul was a Christian,

which was illegal at that time under the Roman

persecutions. He planned to expose Paul and have him arrested.

Paul found out about the evil plan and fled into the desert.

Paul lived the rest of his life in the desert and is remembered as the first Christian Herman. He lived in a cave, ate date fruits, wove his clothes from palm leaves, was friends with lions, and prayed all day.

When he was 43, a raven started to bring him half a loaf of bread a day.

He lived to the age of 113. Which brings us to our next saint. St Anthony the Great was
