I was like, man, this feels like kindred spirits with a lot of the information we've put out on this

podcast and a power athlete for a long time. So I just kind of wanted to get in and talk a little bit about the origin story and what led you to write built for Broken. Sure, absolutely. Well, I'm glad it resonated. You know, I don't know if I have much to add. You guys are on the ball. You know your stuff, but you know i think for me a lot of it's like mastering the fundamentals going back to the basics

0:56.4

um but as far as the ball, you know, your stuff. But, you know, I think for me, a lot of it's like mastering the

fundamentals, going back to the basics. But as far as my journey to writing the book, I self-published

it in 2021, but not to go all the way back to the beginning of time. But as a kid, I was super

injury prone. Not because I was like a daredevil. I was just, my body would break down. I remember friends of my parents, be like, does he have a calcium deficiency? Like, what's wrong with him? That's just how it was for me. That continued through high school, through my collegiate baseball career. I joked that I was in the athletic training room more than I was on the field.

1:30.3

And I think if you talk to my teammates, like, yeah, that's true. He was in there more than he actually played.

1:34.3

And I think that was the first seed, like, planted in terms of the built from broken idea, the mission for Sall Rapp is watching our athletic trainer straddle that line between longevity

1:47.0

and performance we had this old uh kind of cranky old school uh trainer his name was doc and uh i'm pretty

1:56.9

sure i know 25 of those guys like Like old, salty, yeah, Doc.

2:18.7

Or Bud. Oh, me, he was the best. But he would, I mean, if you weren't ready, like, he would, he would get you out of there. Like, if you weren't ready for some pain, he didn't want any Molly Caudillers in his training room. But I remember the football coach coming in, like, he would have a screaming match with Doc. Like, we got to get this guy back on the field.

2:20.2

He's not ready yet, coach.

2:21.1

He's not ready.

2:51.8

And... a football coach coming in like he would have a screaming match with doc like we got to get this guy back on the field he's not ready yet coach he's not ready and the coach would leave doc would turn around to the player like you need to get your shit together you need to be in here every morning no more partying every day you know so he was he was hitting both sides and it was so cool to sit back and watch you know i'm in the, just watching all this because he's, he's looking out for the longevity of the player. He's trying to do right for the kid. But he's also trying to get the kid back on the field. He wants the team to do well. That's, you know, that's how he keeps his job. So I remember just being like, man, this is really cool. you know, I guess fast forward to what we're doing now.

2:56.1

3:00.6
