Today we'll be telling the story of St. John of Sahagoon,

whose faith is celebrated on June 11th.

John was born on June 24th, 1419 in Saja Goon, Spain.

He was the first of seven children born to Juan Gonzalez del Castrio and Sanja Martinez.

His family was wealthy and John received an excellent education.

Because of his family's wealth and status,

after his ordination to the priesthood,

John was given several important positions simultaneously.

But that didn't really sit right with him, and so following his conscience, he gave up all the positions

except one at the poor neighborhood parish.

He decided to continue his studies and moved to Sala Manka to attend the university there.

After years of study and pastoral work, John felt he was being called to join the Order of

Hermits of St. Augustine. He quickly became well known as a fantastic preacher

and confessor. In fact, his preaching on the societal ills of the city of Salamanca,

standing up for the rights of the poor and working classes

were so effective that he was credited with reform of the entire community.
