Talking today about mandated family leave programs in light of the Donald Trump proposal

in recent days to bring about just that.

Apparently his proposal was influenced, at least in part, by his daughter Ivanka, who is not, I think, particularly astute when it comes to public policy analysis.

She actually claimed that there was a wage gap between men and women we've seen on this show that that's completely false.

on this subject with mark perry and we basically blew it out of the water now what's the meat of the

proposal it's six weeks of paid maternity leave, along with another set of proposals related to tax credits of various kinds for child care expenses.

Now, that's a whole separate question, the issue of child care. I actually read an interesting article by Jeff Tucker in the past day or so. Somebody sent me about why child care is so expensive. And the answer is so obvious. It's shocking how obvious it is. A lot of times there are many factors at work and it's hard to disentangle them all.

But in this case, I think it was Pennsylvania where he showed the list of requirements and

regulations that you'd have to abide by. And he asked the question, would you actually even consider

entering this field if you saw this list of things, or all the changes and

updates you'll have to make. Now you've got to take out the seesaw and you've got to make,

you've got to do this and that. Absolutely crazy. The kinds of informal arrangements that

people would very likely make, the kinds of economies of scale, people would be reaching for,
