I'm sharing a sneak peek of my audio book recording of my new book at home in the world.

A few weeks ago, I spent several days recording this thing in a studio here in Austin,

and it gave me a chance

to reread my book. And y'all writing a book, especially a memoir, is therapeutic, but reading

your book out loud just adds a whole layer. It was so good for my soul to revisit my experience

of wandering the globe and to remind myself, it was kind of weird that way, of how much home

matters. So let me back up in case you're not familiar with what I'm talking about. Not too long ago,

my family and I, so three kids, one husband, me, spent a school year traveling around the world

in one direction. We left the U.S. and went to China,

then emerged months and months later on the other side, leaving London and returning back to where

we started. I'll get into the reasons why we actually did this in the intro to the book, which you'll

get to hear in just a minute. But yep, for a year we were nomads. We lived out of our backpacks, carrying only

the basics of what we needed, and we ran our businesses and the kids did their school from the

minimal supplies we had. We did big things like snorkel the Great Barrier Reef and go on a Kenyan

safari, but most of our time was spent living daily life immersed in other cultures. We went

shopping in the Fez Medina in Morocco, where people have been buying their spices and fabrics since

the 9th century. I did my internet-based work from coffee shops in northern Thailand. We took

random exits as we drove through Europe and just happened upon things like the

village where Hitler wrote Mein Kampf and where Tony Bennett helped liberate a concentration

camp just a few years later. We house sat in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia, where we fed backyard
