Hi, I'm Tishawkson Writer, and on The Simple Show, we talk about books, travel, and life at home.

Although I have three co-hosts, where they take turns hosting with me about their particular topics, every now and then I have a special guest.

And that's what this episode is. I'm talking in this one with Esther Emery, a woman who not too long ago decided to take

an entire year off the internet and live to tell about it. Yep, it is possible. In fact, you'll hear

how it affected her life for the better and why she's more than willing to do it again. Esther and her

family now live in the woods, literally. They currently live in a yurt, which if you're not sure what that is, we get into it.

They live off solar power, they grow quite a bit of their own food, and they do it all

in the Idaho woods, which if you know your geography isn't always a warm, toasty place.

She's written a book called What Falls from the Sky, a memoir about what she learned

when she went offline. Esther and I get into what it means to build your own home, to disconnect

from the online world but still engage in it. After all, she's on a podcast with me, and to sit

in silence. Oh, and if you like goats, you'll really like this one.

I'm doing fine. Thanks. Thanks for having me on.

Great. I'm so glad to have you. I love that I am hearing goats and I don't know what else in the background.

Are you like, I mean, I picture you sitting around farm animals. Is that pretty accurate?

Well, they're right outside the door, but the building that I'm in right now is a canvas building because it's our yurt.

It's not a house with walls. And there's one particular goat who's really in a mood right now.

She just had her babies, which is wonderful, the miracle of life.
