Summary
Growing up, my size was always something I attached shame too. I yearned to be smaller. And back in May, while in Seattle with my sponsor Oiselle for a Girls On Track Event where we gave out sports bras and education about boobs and changing bodies to young girls, I kept seeing women and girls alike feel insecure about their size. When I’d suggest a size and show them how to fit it, I’d recognize the pain in their face before they asked for a sports bra two or three sizes smaller.
Our sizes and our weight is nothing to be ashamed about. In fact, size aint nothing but a number. Last week, I read an article on Shape.com titled, “Why America Hates Fat People, The Feminist Take” and it made me want to throw my phone into the East River.
Today, I need to talk about taking the shame away from our sizes because we can make a difference. We can take the shame away from our weight and sizes. But change doesn’t happen overnight. From the conversations we have with our daughters, families, friends, coworkers, within our communities, and even the ones we have online, this is a conversation that needs to be happening. And it needs to be happening often.
