Guys today I'm talking about a topic that is near and dear to my heart and something that we can

all become more educated on.

LGBTQ causes are something I've always been an active supporter of, but today I want to focus

on the T in that LGBTQ acronym, which stands for transgender.

About 10% of the general population experiences alcohol dependency.

But in the trans community, that number is in between 20 and 30%.

The main reason why we see a number so high is because of the discrimination and exclusion

that trans people experience on a daily basis.

So the feeling of isolation is that much greater too.

We've talked about this before on the podcast.

Isolation is where addiction lies. So feeling alone and like

no one understands you pulls you that much deeper into addiction. One of the last

questions I always ask my guess is what advice they have for someone who wants to quit and doesn't know where to begin.

And the answer I hear 99% of the time is to talk to someone.

Communicating with just one other person is what starts to

unravel that feeling of isolation. But what happens when you don't have anyone to talk to?

What happens when you're pushed out of your community,

rejected by your family, or when a faith-based recovery group won't allow you? This is a day in the life of someone who's transgender and why special attention

needs to be paid to this group who experiences addiction with the odds stacked even

further against them.
