Summary

We’re diving into the images of salt and light that Jesus uses in this section of the Sermon on the Mount. Both of these are elements we all use every day, but by looking at the historical and contextual implications of these metaphors, we can get a better idea of what Jesus meant when He called us to be these agents of impact.  Salt is a preservative that slows down decay. Salt is on the defense while the light is on the offense, dispelling darkness from areas wherever it’s present. How does this apply to us? Why does Jesus call us to live like this? Join me as we talk about these metaphors and other Scriptures that remain timeless and applicable today! Yeah. Access more. Welcome back to the Cultivate Podcast. I am Kelly Minter, and I am so glad that you are here. I am back at my dining room table, which is more like a kitchen table, except for that it's not in the kitchen.

1:02.5

But dining room sounds so formal, and this is not very formal. It's pretty relaxed. And I love

1:08.5

sitting here because, as you've heard me say, it's just a way that I can

1:12.7

get comfortable with you as if I'm sitting across the table from you. And we are just talking

1:17.9

about scripture, talking about life, and how the two connect. And that has been one of what I hope

1:24.9

has been a hallmark of the Cultivate podcast. And I'm sitting here

1:28.4

and I'm, I'm looking, realizing that we are at episode 43, that we have had 43 episodes together,

1:35.4

which just feels like so many. And if you have just jumped on to the podcast recently,

1:42.2

I would encourage you go back to the beginning if you want,

1:45.6

because all of the material is evergreen material. One of the things is that we're not really

1:50.2

following current events necessarily. We're really just looking at scripture together.

1:55.2

And so these episodes, regardless of when you listen to them, should really hold their

2:00.8

relevancy because we are in

2:02.3

scripture. So right now, we're in our second episode of a four-part series on Jesus'

2:09.1

Sermon on the Mount. And we're going to kind of fly through a lot of material today. But last

2:15.5

week, episode 42, we looked at the beatitudes, the blessed life, the types of people
