Summary

As we begin a new series in the New Year, I’m excited to focus on Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount in this new four-part series. We’re starting with the Beatitudes where Jesus gives descriptions of what it looks like to flourish and thrive in this life because of the arrival of His kingdom. He gives us an entirely new way to live! And it’s inherently countercultural to what our world defines as blessing. The message of the Beatitudes is not reserved for those who have every materialistic luxury. In fact, Jesus initially taught this message to a group of people who were historically oppressed and marginalized. And the Beatitudes are not a to-do list for Christians, but instead a definition of Christ followers and how they walk in the newness of Christ’s kingdom. It’s a declaration–when you find yourself in these conditions and you’re a follower of Christ, you are blessed. As we go into a new year, remember that our God is a promise keeper and He is not forgetful of us or His promises. While this season may carry both joy and difficulty, we have good news! God kept His promise in sending a Savior into the world, Immanuel, God with us. 1:13.3	Now, sometimes I know it can be hard because if you, you know, all of our personalities are different. But if you're like me, it's like at the end of the year, all I can kind of see is Thanksgiving, Christmas, the new year,
1:18.3	all the parties, all the services, like that just kind of consumes your time.
1:24.5	And you think, okay, as soon as we get through that, we're going to have this brand new,
1:29.5	fresh year, and it's just like a clean slate. And then you get to that Monday after the new year and you realize, oh, right. So I have all the same problems that I had at the

2:02.7	some of the same issues that I've had. And so as I was thinking about, okay, what would be a
2:08.9	great way to kick off the year? I thought, how about a four-part series going through Jesus
2:16.3	sermon on the Mount? Now, if you're not familiar with that, you can
2:20.0	find the whole sermon in Matthew chapter 5, 6, and 7. And it's where Jesus teaches his ethic,
2:28.3	what is important to him, teaches about what he cares about, how he wants us to live. And it is really all about transformation
2:37.3	and all about life change and how we can be new because Jesus' kingdom has come to this earth.
