Summary

Today’s question is one Annie Grace hears a lot. A reader writes that they are drinking again and can’t seem to stop. Quitting the first time was easy and they thought they could have one or two and now they’re stuck drinking again. How can this process be worth it if you feel like you keep failing at it? Why continue down this road if all you do is keep hitting bumps? Start by remembering the journey to finding freedom from alcohol is not a straight line, and listen as Annie shares a few ideas for dealing with the twists and turns.

I'm so excited you guys, because we are just about to start another live alcohol experiment. Hey, it's Annie. How is everybody doing? Can you guys hear me? Awesome. Yeah, I'm just coming

0:35.5

from my phone. I usually am at my computer, but anyway, I get this question a lot and I

0:42.4

just got it again. I've done a few different videos on this actually a few different ways.

0:47.4

There's a bunch of different stuff that you can find on either my podcast, the snake in my

0:52.1

podcast, or on my YouTube channel about this specific question and the things that can keep

0:58.4

keep us stuck. I wanted to address it again in a different way because sometimes we just need

1:05.8

to hear here again and sometimes people, it's probably one of the most prevalent questions I get.

1:12.8

So the question is, hey, Annie, I'm drinking again and I can't seem to stop. It was so easy the

1:21.2

first time and now I thought I could just have one or two and I'm back in the depths of it.

1:28.0

And so what can you tell me? How can you help? And I think the first thing to understand and to

1:37.0

realize is that we think this is linear. We think it's a straight line. We think that our journey

1:42.3

from being entrenched in alcohol to whatever that means for you to being in alcohol free is like

1:48.2

up into the right. You just start and you go and it's great and it's just up into the right.

1:53.1

And that's not true. It wasn't true for me. It was definitely like years of trying to drink

2:00.4

glass, trying to moderate my behavior, trying to change my behavior, trying to take breaks before

2:05.0

I really had a moment where I was like, you know what? I'm not going to do any of that anymore. I'm

2:08.6

just going to really ask myself a new question, which is why am I doing this to begin with.

2:12.2

And then I went on almost a year-long journey of finding those answers, which of course you can

2:16.7

find in my book, This Make It Mind. And then, and then yeah, it was easy, but it was after like

2:23.9

there was so much history before it was easy. So sometimes we just see people and we're like,
