Summary

Sometimes I feel like my brain is a variety show and your cable network is out of whack, which is to say that you only catch slivers of each section. The fact of the matter is, I'm only delivering slivers of each section, so I'm sorry I just blamed your network. Self-deprecation aside, this episode is all about real world re-entry following a lazy, delightful summer. When you work in fashion, the week that follows Labor Day has this unique ability to make you feel as though you are practically starting your first day of high school, which we talk about a little as a starter thought to open up a larger conversation about fashion week. 0:29.6	The fact of the matter is that many of us aren't even in school anymore, right?
0:33.6	So why does it happen that that back to school feeling never goes away?
0:39.3	The really simple answer, I think, if you work in fashion, is that Fashion Week sort of
0:44.3	becomes our new back to school. It's the thing that thwarts us into the fall without letting us
0:50.3	enjoy or respect the residual days of summer.
0:55.0	I think ultimately we should talk about how to amplify the best part of back-to-school season
0:59.0	and make it feel like we're entering a new era of excitement, the new summer.
1:04.0	Are there small triggers we can pull?
1:07.0	Are there talismans that we could take into the new seasons with us? And like maybe one of the triggers is to talk about fashion week, right?
1:14.6	Fashion Week in September is always a bit more climactic than fashion week in February,
1:21.6	partially because of the time of year, because it has that squeaky new pencil case smell and feel.
1:33.2	Raf Simmons is showing his first collection at Calvin Klein, which is going to happen next Thursday, and Jonathan Saunders, a Scottish designer who's based out of the UK, has just taken
1:38.2	over as creative director of DVF.
1:40.3	So we have two exciting things to look forward to in American fashion.
1:43.6	The irony, of course, being that these two un-American designers are taking over these American fashion houses.
1:50.0	So I'm really excited for the new, which is really interesting also, right?
