Tonight I'd like to finish the discussion we began last week on mundane right view and then examine

the liberating aspect of this first step of the noble eightfold path.

So the last two statements the Buddha made regarding worldly right view

first affirmed. regarding worldly right view, first affirms that there are beings who are

reborn spontaneously in other realms.

And then the second statement is that there are in the world wise and virtuous people who have

realized the truth through their own direct experience.

So regarding the first of these,

that there are beings who are reborn spontaneously in other realms.

We spoke last week of staying, open to the possibilities at least, of things beyond our direct

experience.

In the Buddhist teachings, we're not at all enjoined to blind belief.

But it's also belief.

But it's also helpful, as we mentioned, that it's good not to be attached to blind disbelief. That is, understanding that there are things beyond the realm of what we now know and that

it could be helpful to at least stay open to the possibility of them.

The last aspect of mundane right view is one that I find particularly relevant now in our own Western culture.

That is that there are wise and virtuous people who have realized the truth

for themselves through direct experience.
