And today we are going to be in Doctrine and Covenants 49 and 50.

And it really is nice to have these two back to back, because this is a very significant warning from the Lord.

And big picture, I think we need to stand

back and hear the warning. And that is, section 49 is a warning against false doctrine,

and section 50 is a warning against false revelation. We can believe a truth that is false. And if we believe it and act on it, we may

treat people inappropriately or we may offend God. So we need to make sure that we don't believe

a falsehood. Now, what's interesting about Section 49 is kind of the context. Sometimes we think of

false doctrine as deliberate lies sent out by

enemies of righteousness trying to destroy us. But Section 49's background is really good

intending people. Religious, loving people who on their own study came to some wrong conclusions.

And the Lord steps forward and corrects those wrong conclusions.

And I think one of the messages we need to hear is, even with good intent,

we might believe and teach a false doctrine. So major message is beware of false doctrines

and beware of false revelations. We can be deceived by false messages. All around us, there are

people who are receiving messages and they are convinced they are coming from a divine source

when they are not. And once again, we've seen this so many times, once again, the Lord has to
