Summary

Have you ever known that a loved one is holding back parts of themselves and essentially lying to you but they won't talk to you about it? Well, this is what happened with Natalie and her brother for over twenty years. In this episode, they sit down and share the story of what happened when he could finally be honest with her, the impact of generational trauma, and what happened when they accidentally discovered they'd both been lied to for over forty years about a crucial aspect of their childhood.

Note: there are a couple of 'naughty' words, just in case you're listening in the vicinity of little ears.

We experienced something a couple of years ago that I remember at the time thinking to myself this is something that is going to be

0:48.1

really important to talk about one day but this isn't the time for me to do that because it's his story and I felt like he needed to be there for it.

conversation and I feel emotional already just at the prospect of sharing it. It is hilarious and it is heartbreaking at times and also it's just awesome. Like I felt and feel lit up by having had this

1:48.1

experience with him and this won't be the last time that he will be on here in

1:52.2

fact I've already recorded another

1:54.2

episode with him. But for now, I'm going to hand over to our conversation and please do let us know what you think of this episode. This is a big story for us.

2:08.8

This is a big even disclosure. We have grown up in a time and within a family. You don't talk about

2:18.0

your inside business outside. Let's be real, I've been breaking that rule for a really long time and even then I still

2:30.3

had a bit of trepidation about doing this and now here we are breaking the

2:36.1

rule together. Okay let's do this.

2:42.0

Have you ever known that a loved one is going through something that maybe they're

2:51.6

holding back parts of themselves an aspect of their life and yet you can't talk about it even when he tried to broach the subject.

2:58.0

Maybe you know that someone in your life, it could be your sibling, a cousin, a long standing family member, friends, you know that something is going on,

3:06.8

you know that there's a secret, it's this thing between you, but you can't talk about it.

3:11.3

Well this is something I'm really familiar with.

3:15.0

This was something that I grappled with probably for about 20 years
